About the Scholarship Program
This scholarship program was named in loving memory of Firstrust Bank Founder, Samuel A. Green, who was a staunch believer in encouraging young people to pursue their education and fulfill their dreams. In the spirit of his legacy, we are inspired to carry on our strong commitment toward helping students succeed.
A Samuel A. Green Scholar is a graduating high school senior in the Greater Philadelphia or Lehigh Valley area that demonstrates leadership potential and a fierce commitment to making a substantial impact in their community.

Samuel A. Green
Samuel A. Green, one of eight children, was born and raised in a small Hungarian farming town. Sam joined his family in Philadelphia in 1905, putting down roots and quickly becoming involved in the local community. Recognizing the opportunity to support the needs of the community, Sam started a savings and loan that is now a third-generation, family-owned bank. The Samuel A. Green Scholarship Program is one of the ways that we commemorate him and his commitment to helping others, while supporting the needs and the dreams of young people in the community.

Who is Eligible?
To apply to be a Samuel A. Green Scholar, you must be a high school graduating senior/rising college freshman from a public, private, parochial or charter school, or a home-schooled student or technical school graduate and GED recipient, who plans to be a full-time student at a community or four-year, not-for-profit, accredited college or university. The Samuel A. Green Scholarship is available only to legal United States residents or citizens living or attending school within the Greater Philadelphia or Lehigh Valley areas. Applicants already attending college or who are at least 30 years old as of March 3, 2024, will not be considered.
Employees, officers or directors of the Green Family Foundation or Firstrust Bank, its subsidiaries, affiliates, donors, distributors, advertising and promotion agencies, family members (defined as spouses, children, parents, siblings and in-laws) or persons living in the household of any of the above, or anyone who may become an employee of the Green Family Foundation or Firstrust Bank or such subsidiaries, affiliates, donors, distributors, and advertising and promotion agencies after submitting their application are not eligible to apply.
Why Apply?
The 2024 Samuel A. Green Scholarship Program will award:
$360,000 in Multiyear Support
Scholars will receive up to $20,000 in multiyear support towards college.
Submit Essay Explain in 300 words or fewer, how you will use your college education to make a substantial impact in your community?
Semi-Finalists 100 applicants will be selected as semi-finalists, requiring a letter of reference attesting to demonstrated leadership along with a copy of their high school transcript.

May 3, 2024 - 2024 Samuel A. Green Scholars are notified
May 29, 2024 - 2024 Samuel A. Green Scholarship Awards Ceremony
Each student may only submit one application. Awards are intended for the student only; no provision is made for spouses or dependents. No substitution of the award is permitted. Checks will be payable to the accredited, not-for-profit college or university that the student will be attending. Scholarship awards will be paid during the academic years 2024-2028. If the student accepting a Samuel A. Green Scholarship is also receiving financial aid, accepting the scholarship may reduce the aid. Please contact your financial advisor for details. Scholarship awards cannot be deferred without expressed written permission by the Foundation.
The Green Family Foundation was established in 2005 by Samuel A. Green’s son and daughter-in-love, Daniel and Florence (“Flo”). Daniel was the Chairman and CEO of Firstrust Bank from 1970-2005 and Chairman Emeritus until his death in 2020. Richard J. Green, their son, serves as Trustee for the Foundation. The Green Family Foundation is dedicated to cultivating and investing in innovative and impactful solutions that foster inclusive and interconnected communities so that individuals and communities flourish and reach their full potential.
